Is this America???

I recently moved to a new neighborhood and am exploring the open spaces and parks in this part of America. One of green belt areas I visited has this desolate broken and patched up bridge. I am surprised that this has been left like this. Perhaps nobody uses this part of the open space much so it has been left alone to the wild? I do not know, but it did make a rugged view and interesting experience to amble across the bridge gingerly keeping my balance on the slippery logs.

Golden Gate Bridge, San Franscisco

I visited San Franscisco, California few years ago. This was my first experience of traveling alone in the US. I took a local train from San Jose to San Francisco, then took buses from the train station to see the sights of the city. The most famous landmark in San Franscisco is the Golden Gate Bridge, an architectural marvel, and perhaps one of the few such bridges in the whole world. Both the federal and state government is so considerate for people's travel interests that they have created a pedestrian lane in the Bridege using which people walk, bicycle, roller blade across the bridge. Now this of course helps the government achieve the full commercial potential of this landmark. I wish Indian governments taught in this way and attracted more tourists to our wonderful landmarks.

I had written about bridges and their vital role in linking lands and people. Bridges have been the cause of growth and conflict and history is witness to this phenomenon. Hollywood has produced movies such as The Bridge on the River Kwai depicting the strategic importance of the bridges.

Bridges that Link Places - 1

Life on earth has come a long way since the first human being walked on the planet. Human beings have been able to link land masses divided by natural obstructions such as rivers, lakes, canyons, valleys, etc by building bridges. These vital links have been used by governments and corporations as revenue generation tools. Armies have used the bridges as means of control by destroying vital links and cutting off the land area from outside world. It is interesting to note the different kinds, purposes, and varieties of bridges that are used by people across the world. In my limited travel experience I have shot some pictures of bridges and here they are for your viewing pleasure.

Road Views From Google Maps

I was browsing the internet to get directions to reach a particular location and I found this interesting feature. I had come across this feature over a year ago but hadn't used it to the fullest extent. Today I just thought I'd try out and see how this feature works and decided to do some copy and pasting of images on my blog. Google has really come to the doorsteps of our homes. Cameras are everywhere it is a matter of time before corporations or government will invade the privacy of our homes and rooms. Right now through this feature one can zoom in to the doorsteps of houses. Here are two pictures I just captured from Google maps just the quality is good and it seems like shot from a high resolution camera.

Bridges that link people

These are some pictures I captured during my drives in and around my home in Dallas area. I chose a few pictures of bridges for this post, because like they say a bridge links two places which would have been otherwise divided. I remember a quote from David Russel about bridges: The hardest thing in life is to know which bridge to cross and which to burn. Insightful right?

Another quote which I like very much is from Jim Rohn which reads: Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.

And ofcourse my all time favourite: People who have lost relationships often wonder why they can't just let it be "water under the bridge." It is water under the bridge - the trouble is we do not live on the bridge but in the river of life with its many twists and turns.
How true!!!
