Stockyards station - Fort Worth

The old water tower that was used to fill up steam engines of trains that transported cattle from farms to the slaughterhouses across the country. It stands preserved as a testimony of time this country has emerged from.

Lake Mineral Wells Vistas

Last Sunday we visited Lake Mineral Wells, about 100 miles from Plano, TX where yours truly lives. Like most other lakes in Texas this one is also huge and has muddy looking water. There were several families, groups, and individuals out there fishing, hiking, rock climbing and generally enjoying the day outdoors. Once summer sets in this will be out of question. Here are some pictures of the state park...

Artworks at Kimbell Museum

Last Sunday we visited the Kimbell art museum in Fort Worth, Texas. Here are pictures of some interesting artworks in their permanent collection. There are many paintings in the collection, but I am interested in sculptures so I captured only those that appealed to me. I am not so enamored by European sculptures because in my opinion they are too boring. Sculptural art from South America, Africa and Asian countries are much more vibrant and interesting. There is some kind of intrigue, mystery, and rugged aesthetics. Sculpture of Mexican origin

Kimbell Art Museum, Fort Worth

Today we visited the Kimbell Museum of Art in Fort Worth, Texas. This is a private museum of art works from mostly European art. A few samples of South American, Chinese and Japanese art are also displayed as part of the exhibit. The museum has been maintained in an impeccable condition and access to the private collection is free. That sounds amazing considering the fact that it takes a lot of money to maintain the museum. Even parking is free. I would say it is well worth a visit. There are some rare pieces of art including Michelangelo's first painting, Picasso and Caravaggio's works too.
Here are some pictures from the Museum...

What will you do to eradicate MS?

This is a well produced video which showcases real people suffering from MS but working to make a difference for the millions of others affected by the same disease. Since I signed up for the Bike MS 150 I have been trying to raise funds for the National MS Society and this video I guess pretty much sums up what it is all about. The final questions boils down to: What will you do to eradicate MS from the world?
The easiest way perhaps is to support my ride.

Vistas of Fort Worth

The Stockyard Station

Dallas and Forth Worth are twin cities in the US. Just like Bangalore-Mysore, Mumbai-Pune, Delhi-Gurgaon, Hyderabad-Secunderabad etc, in India. The combined areas of Dallas and Fort Worth and their suburbs are known as DFW Metroplex. Though there are numerous airports in the metroplex the biggest one is known as the DFW Airport. Anyway coming back to this post, last weekend we drove down to Fort Worth to take a look at the famed stockyards. This was the place where cattle and horses were bred and transported across the country for meat and other purposes.

Down town area begins here

Today the stockyard area is a bustling historic downtown area known for its old-world charm. There is a heritage railway which runs taking passengers on joy rides through the Stockyard Station. There are shops selling cowboy memorablia and food places, the oldest indoor Rodeo Coliseum etc. It was a pity I had forgotten to carry my camera and ended up shooting pictures in the mobile phone camera and not all of them have come out good.

One thing is for sure, this was not the my last visit to Fort Worth or the historic stockyards. Next time I will get better pictures, for now, enjoy these and leave your feedback.
