A presentation on Hero Stones

During the wintermester I took up a course in basic/ introduction to Humanities. The course was supposed to introduce students to humanistic traditions of art, architecture, music, etc from around the world. Unfortunately the textbook is written in such a way that the complete focus of the curriculum is on European, specifically post-renaissance culture. Every major culture/ tradition was represented in the textbook and the course barring Indian/ Hindu. As part of the course requirements I created a presentation to introduce the tradition of Hero Stones to the class. Here is the presentation for you all to look at and comment:

Weston, a remote village in Texas

Yesterday we had been driving around in Collin County to scout an ideal route for a bicycle ride/ rally. We passed through a small 2-4 road city known as "Weston", which apparently has the oldest city hall in Collin County. Here are pictures of the same. Though most roads of this village are in shambles, the main arterial road which links this with rest of the county is in excellent condition.

Like every other village, city or town, Weston too has a swank church. I wonder why they had to name this one "First Baptist Church". I haven't come across any second Baptist church. Most that I come across are First Baptist churches, I wonder what the secret is.

Vistas of Collin County

Last weekend I had gone driving to explore the rural areas of Collin County and what I saw flabbergasted me completely. There are roads which seemed as if they had not seen asphalt for decades, lined by trash on either sides, these roads had only gravel on the surface. Then of course there were several modern style village roads with good signage, smooth surface and wide enough for two large vehicles pass each other. But overall the road signs in rural Collin County needs improvement. Here are some images.
