One Wheeled Electric Motorcycle

I chanced upon the above posted video online on Bloomberg and was pretty impressed. This one wheeled electric motorcycle is set to hit streets in January 2013 not too far ahead. Considering its low speed and coverage I don't think the Wonderbike will become an instant hit among urban residents. It may be bought by entertainment hungry Americans to cruise around neighborhoods or to gift it to their pre-teen children as birthday gifts. Other than that I don't see much commercial value for this vehicle, unless... UNLESS they make the range higher and a little bit faster say top speed of 40 mph.

January 2013 is far ahead, let us see what they finally launch into the market. I'd be curious to know.

The accompanying news article reads like this:
May 8 (Bloomberg) -- Portland-based Ryno Motors has set a launch date of January, 2013 for its electric Ryno-cycle. The one-wheeled, self-balancing vehicle has a range of up to 20 miles and a top speed of 20 Mph. It is estimated to cost $4,500 when it hits retail after the new year. (Source: Bloomberg)

Two Wheeled Wonders

In America everything seems to be taken to the extreme. When it comes to building custom motorcycles people spend hundreds of thousands of $$$s to get the machine of their dreams. Here are a few examples...

Mind-blowing Mini Motorcycle Stunt

Extreme sports has always fascinated me, be it performed with sheer manpower or using machines, the feat is indeed unique and quite dangerous. Sometimes thrill seekers even court death while performing stunts, few live on to tell stories of their death-defying experiences.

Quite by accident I came across the above video of some pocket bike enthusiasts. These motorcycles are miniature machines built to spec and run like real ones. Full size adults ride these for fun and recreation and some perform dangerous and adrenaline pumping stunts such as the one in the video.

Couple of things in the video completely amaze me, the power of the small motorcycle that can carry its rider and itself at such great speeds to achieve this stunt. Then of course the courage of the rider who is not wearing lot of protective gear but seems to casually performing the stunt as if it is a daily affair.

Remembering Boss Hoss

One of the first things I did after landing in the US was to ride a V-8 powered Boss Hoss motorcycle, the world's biggest and most powerful production motorcycle. Going through the pictures I remembered the awesome power and the throaty sound of the metal monster. A minute flick of the throttle made the motorcycle soar ahead like a plane. Though there are lots of people in the US who own these humongous bikes, I have not seen many on the road. Here are some pictures of the monster motorcycles.

Bhutan Views

Have been too busy with school and hence not had the time to photograph too many things. I just thought I'd keep the blog active by posting some recycled pictures. Here are some memories of Bhutan which I visited two years ago... yes... it has been nearly 2 years since I visited Bhutan... my god... how time has flown... it is a year since I landed here and it has been really fast....
Anyway now let us get some Bhutan pictures...

Ferry Ride

Ferry Ride, originally uploaded by srinidhilv.

My picture as I ride a boat with my motorcycle across the ocean-sized Chilika lake in Orissa, India. Those were good times footloose and fancy free going out into the countryside astirde by metal steed.
Current times are great only that there is lot more to do and loads of responsibility. But different times, different things, different lifestyles... wonder where it is leading me to... probably there...

Glimpses of the Mighty Himalayas

Continuing on my nostalgia series of blogposts, I'd like to post about my trans-Himalayan motorcycle expedition in 2002. We were 8 people, 6 motorcycles and one car and we took off from Delhi on our wanderlust into the heart of the Himalayas. I have tried to capture the essence of the journey through pictures and a very short video. Unlike usually I was in the car as part of the support team for a large part of this journey. I rode the bike probably about 500 km throughout the entire expedition. Driving a car along the curvaceous roads which soared skywards and plunged to sea levels was a thrilling experience too. Here are the pictures:
