The Penitentiary Hollow in Mineral Wells State Park is one of the most interesting parts of the park other than the lake of course. This is a small rocky patch ideal of top-rope climbing or short pitch climbing. It is not uncommon to see groups of climbers honing and practicing their skills on these rocks during weekends. This is also one of the few areas where the flat terrain of DFW area doesn't dominate the landscape. There are hills, valleys, slopes and ravines one can explore.
