Historical Marker - Modern day inscriptions

In ancient civilizations, notably India, the presence of inscriptions on stone is very commonplace. Stone tablets were used in other civilizations too. In India as recently as 19th century stone was used to record historical incidents. Even to this date we can see inscriptions and memorials stones in and around ancient temples, antiquated monuments, water tanks, and royal buildings.

When I came to the US I started noticing that this young nation also has a similar system of installing inscriptions. Here the inscriptions are known as "Historical Markers" and are made of metal and of course are in English language. In terms of eloquence, information and ease of understanding these historical markers are better than their ancient counterparts in India. That is probably because millions of Indians have learned English and are more fluent in this foreign language than most native speakers.

But wen it comes to artistry and sheer aesthetics, Indian inscriptions stand head, shoulders and waist higher than these boring metal contraptions. Here, take a look at some of these metal inscriptions or "Historical Markers".
